Mr. Dilloughery's Core 2 Math Class
Here is a recap of the first two weeks of school:
Week One
(September 2nd - 6th)
This week was filled with review, practice and placement exams. There were no graded assignments this week and nothing to catch up on if you missed class
Week Two
(September 9th - 13th)
This week we reviewed three topics in class (outlined below). There were three homework assignments (explained below). There was the first weekly quiz.
- Topic #1 - Arithmetic (Order of Operations) - This is one of the three main skill you will need throughout the year. The basic idea is that if I give you a bunch of numbers and math operations, I want you to be the human calculator and come out with the correct answer. You should know in which order to do multiplication and addition and so on as well as being able to do simple operations with one- and two-digit numbers.
- Classwork #001: p.82 Exercise 12 #1-18 and Exercise 13 #1-9
- Homework #001: Complete all 30 problems on the handout HW001.PDF
- Attachments - CW001.PDF, HW001.PDF and the Answer Key to HW001
- Topic #2 - Solving Equations - This is the second of the three main skills you will need to have throughout this year. If you are given an equation with just x's and numbers, then you should be able to solve for x.
- Homework #002:
- page 47, Exercise 3 #17-49 ODD problems only
- page 47, Exercise 4 #1-15 ODD problems only
- page 48, Exercise 5 #1-19 ODD problems only
- Attachment - HW 002.PDF
- Topic #3 - Graphing Linear Equations - This is the third and final skill that you will need to have throughout this year. You should be able to graph an equation like y=3x+2 or 2x-5y=7. You should also be able to take information from a graph or information given to you such as two points, and be able to write the equation of the line.
- Homework #003:
- p.59 Exercise 14 ALL
- p.60 Exercise 15 ALL
- Attachment - HW 003.PDF
- Weekly Quiz - This quiz only covered the first two topics, as we had not yet reviewed the third topic. It consisted of 5 order of operation questions and 5 solving equation problems. In general, future quizzes will be about a quarter on order of operations, a quarter on solving equations, a quarter on graphing linear equations, and a quarter on recent materials (new things from the week of the quiz).
