Frequently Asked Questions

  1. If I did most of the problem correct and only made this one tiny little mistake and only got a half of a point taken off at the end for this tiny little mistake ....... do I need to do the entire problem over?
    • YES - Regardless of whether you got the entire problem wrong or just made one tiny mistake, you did not complete the problem correctly. You need to start over and complete the entire problem from start to finish correctly while showing all work.
  2. But Mr. Dilloughery there is so much extra space on this quiz, can't I just correct it on the test/quiz paper? Making me take out a new sheet of paper is just wasting paper! Think of the trees, don't waste paper!
    • NO - You must complete all of the corrections on a new, blank sheet of paper that will be stapled to the original test. This way I can clearly see what you did on the test/quiz and I can clearly see your corrections on a clean sheet of paper.
  3. Mr. Dilloughery, I got a 15/20 (75%). Can I do test corrections?
    • YES - but it will not change the grade of your test/quiz =)
  4. What if I don't want to do test/quiz corrections?
    • Then I would be disappointed that you missed an opportunity to learn from your mistakes and improve as a student. You will also have to live with your failing grade.
  5. What if I only complete some of the test/quiz corrections? What if I don't complete the test/quiz corrections correctly?
    • Then I will hand mark the ones that are correct and the ones that are incorrect and hand the paper back to you. You will need to complete the assignment correctly and completely to receive credit.
  6. If I got the problem wrong the first time, how will I know how to do it correctly?
    • Normally, the mistakes made on the quizzes are small and you will often catch your own mistakes. However, if you need help you can approach me (Mr. Dilloughery) outside of class time or email me to schedule a time to receive help. You could ask one of your fellow students to help you. You could hire a tutor.

The Reason Why We Do Corrections

Corrections are an important part of the test-taking process. In math, like in most subjects, we learn from making mistakes. Without looking back at our mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them. This is not meant to torture you by any means, but it is vital that you review each of the places where your pencil slipped, or you left out a number, so that the next time you take a test you won't make the same mistake!
