Review Week (May 26 - 30, 2014)

Review Week

To review for the final, we will be going through your past two chapter tests. I have posted the answer keys below. There will be no homework this week.

Topics that will be on the final exam:
1. Course fundamentals from weekly quizzes (similar to the first 6 questions of each weekly quiz)
2. Probability (questions similar to the unit test)
3. Trigonometry without a calculator (questions similar to the unit test)
4. Exponents and Logs (questions similar to the unit test)
Unit Test - Trigonometry #2 (No Calculator)
Answer Key - Trigonometry #2 (No Calculator)

Unit Test - Exponents and Logs
Answer Key - Exponents and Logs
... these will be uploaded as soon as the last two students have taken the exam

The weekly quizzes can be found here:
Weekly Quiz #9
Weekly Quiz #10
Weekly Quiz #13
Weekly Quiz #14
Weekly Quiz #16

I will place all of the weekly quiz answer keys up on the blog on Wednesday night. This is the day all test/quiz corrections are due. This will allow you more than five full days to use the quizzes and answer keys to practice before the exam.

Quizzes and Tests to Review (answer keys to come)

Quizzes and Tests(For Exam Review)

Here are all of the tests and quizzes that we have taken this second semester. Each and every question on these exams is fair game to be on the final exam. These are a perfect study tool as we approach the final exam.

One suggestion for studying:
1. Collect the correct answers to the exams from your fellow students (maybe even photocopying a friend's quiz or taking a snapshot with your iphone)
2. Print out a blank quiz or test
3. Take the quiz/test or just try one page
4. Check your answers, looking at your mistakes and learning from them so that you do not make the same mistakes again.
5. Relax
6. Repeat

Exams:
Weekly Quiz #9 and Answer Key (WQ09)
Weekly Quiz #10 and Answer Key (WQ10)

One write up per group. This will count as two homework assignments as we worked on this project over two days. This is what is expected:
1. Detailed Diagram - A detailed diagram clearly labeled with the angles and distances you measured (one for each)
2. Measurements/Data - All of your measurements that you took for 3 trials at each location
3. Calculations and Answers - Showing your work on all of your calculations to arrive at at least three calculated answers for both the balcony and the crane height
4. Final Guess - A final guess for the height of both the crane and the balcony
5. Explanation - Explain how you chose the final guess. Was it an average of your three trials? Did you toss out one trial that was way off? Did you choose on answer you thought was better than the others? Why?

Hints:
1. Take the distance from the ground to your eye level into account when measuring height
2. Take measurements from more than a few meters apart. This will decrease your margin of error.

Classwork
The 27th annual Dilloughery balcony challenge (with a giant crane to boot)!

Goal:
Be the group to most accurately measure the height of these two locations below, without disturbing other classes that are in session!

Challenge #1 - Find the height of the top of the railing on Lily Dilloughery's balcony, using the bottom of the Lanterna stairs as ground level. The "bottom of the Lanterna stairs" means the walkway you would walk on if you went from Lanterna 1 to Lanterna 3. In case you don't know where Lily Dilloughery lives, her balcony is directly above the main Lanterna stairs on the side with the amazing view of the lake.

Challenge #2 (more difficult) - Find the height of the tip top of the yellow crane, using the field in the front of campus as ground level. The field I am talking about is the one between the parking lot, the admissions office, the construction of the new science building, and the small amphitheater on the hill.

Basic Outline:
1. Get into a group and begin to plan. Specifically focus on these things: What will you use to measure distance and angles? Plan what measurements you will take.
2. Get outside and start measuring
